As Jonas Leisure’s development manager, Daniel Barndon plays a key role in the coding of our technology solutions, from our UniOne student activity management system to our Envibe leisure management software.

He joined the team just a few months ago but has already been putting his skills to good use. Working from his home office with a view of the Western Australian wildlife, he’s often watching kangaroos bounding by as he works to code the next development or enhancement.

What is your current role with Jonas Leisure, and what do you most enjoy about it?

I’m the development manager, which means that I’m looking at the future of our software, as well as being actively involved in designing and writing code. One of my first focus areas will be UniOne – it’s a great opportunity to take it into the future, with lots of exciting changes on the horizon.

How long have you been in the role, and what did you do beforehand?

I’ve been in this role for nearly three months now, so I’m still very new to the position. Prior to working with Jonas Leisure, I was a principal software engineer for RAC of West Australia.

What does a typical day at work look like for you?

A typical day would normally start with reviewing and actioning any outstanding support issues or customer-reported items. It’s very important to keep our customers happy and let them know that their business is a high priority for us. Most days would involve coding, including for UniOne to improve and extend the system capabilities. I’m also called on regularly for technical and system architecture questions.

Where are you based right now, and what is your office like?

I’m working from home, which is in Denmark in regional Western Australia. My home office has a great view out to the Porongurup Range, and I can see the kangaroos out of my window.

What do you enjoy doing outside of work?

I enjoy lots of different outdoor activities, but I probably spend too much time in front of a computer or at the gym.

What were you doing before joining Jonas Leisure?

I’ve worked in a number of different roles over the last 25 years, primarily in finance or mining companies, so this is a great chance to try something new.

What is your favourite book right now?

I’ve just purchased a few of the original Far Side comics, which my children really enjoy as well.

Do you plan to do any travel this year?

I don’t have any plans for travel so far this year, but I’d eventually like to travel to Vietnam, Canada and Japan.

What are you most looking forward to about the rest of 2022?

Seeing what’s possible. The world is a good place – you just need to know how to look at it.
