Leisure Centre Easygate Turnstile Installation
"One of the key requirements for our turnstile solution was providing a fast, easy-to-use system that allows members to access the site quickly without needing to visit reception. As members typically carry sports bags and other items, a hands-free solution was essential." — Dale Morrisy, Manager, Beatty Park Leisure Centre
The Site
The $17million redevelopment of Beatty Park is more than a brilliant aquatic facility. Its new hi-tech features demonstrate best practice in environmental sustainability and will deliver an energy saving of 5,000 mega watt hours per annum.
The Challenge
Beatty Park required a capable solution to deliver efficient access control for both members and casual visitors - one that could be seamlessly integrated with their membership system, without compromising the open, welcoming atmosphere that defines the centre.
The Solution
Beatty Park evaluated a range of turnstile options, carefully weighing budget, operational efficiency, visitor experience, and the high aesthetic standards evident throughout the facility. After thorough assessment, a speed gate with glass barriers, opening in a smooth, intuitive door-like motion, was identified as the ideal fit. The Centurion EasyGate SG from Jonas Leisure's Entrance Control division was selected as the product that best met their requirements.
Entrance Control's hardware is designed to integrate natively with the full suite of Jonas Leisure membership systems, making it a natural choice for facilities like Beatty Park. The Centurion EasyGate SG combines glass barriers with state-of-the-art optical technology to deliver a high-throughput security gate. Operating in a 'normally closed' mode, the bi-directional barriers open swiftly upon presentation of a valid card, allowing authorised users to pass with ease. The barriers close quickly behind each user to deter tailgating, while integrated IR sensors continuously monitor the lane to detect unauthorised entry and ensure user safety. The door-like opening motion allows for a pedestal width of just 200mm - with the same slim profile available in wider DDA-compliant lanes - ensuring the turnstiles have minimal visual impact on the building's overall design.
The membership system was seamlessly integrated with the EasyGate hardware to deliver a complete turnkey solution. Each gate features touch controllers equipped with a combination of RFID and barcode readers, plus a colour display that guides users through the process with clear graphic and text-based feedback. Members are issued an RFID card, while casual visitors receive a low-cost barcoded ticket. When a card or ticket is scanned at the turnstile, it is instantly validated. If approved, the EasyGate SG opens immediately - providing a clear, hands-free entry experience every time.
